For over a decade, I had the privilege of working at the Welsh Joint Education Committee (WJEC) in Cardiff as a Digital Learning Producer in the Education Resources department.
From August 2011 to February 2023, I created digital and print learning materials for teachers and students across Wales and the UK.
As a Digital Learning Producer, I worked closely with subject officers and authors. Together, we turned curriculum content into engaging educational resources. Each resource met the requirements of WJEC and Eduqas qualifications.
Accuracy and accessibility were essential. Educational resources must be clear, visually structured, and reliable for learners.
Designing Knowledge Organisers
One of my key projects as a Digital Learning Producer was the creation of Knowledge Organisers.
A knowledge organiser is a simple document that summarises the key facts of a topic. These resources help students revise and retain essential knowledge.
My work focused on designing A3 knowledge organisers for print and digital PDF formats. I produced the resources in both English and Welsh.
I led the digital creative production of the organisers. As a result, the materials followed a consistent layout and strong visual structure.
Colleagues and subject officers responded positively to the organisers. Consequently, they became useful revision resources for learners.

Developing Blended Learning Resources
Digital learning became even more important during the COVID-19 pandemic. As a result, WJEC launched a Blended Learning platform for schools and colleges.
Blended learning combines classroom teaching with online learning activities.
As a Digital Learning Producer, I designed interactive learning activities for the platform. These activities encouraged students to engage with key subject knowledge.
Examples included:
- Drag-and-drop activities
- True or false questions
- Sorting exercises
- “Find the mistake” tasks
These activities supported active learning and knowledge recall.
Before development, the team prototyped many activities using Figma. This approach allowed us to test and refine ideas.
After the success of the Knowledge Organisers, the team asked me to design an A4 promotional leaflet for the Blended Learning initiative. The leaflet promoted the platform and raised awareness of digital learning resources.
The project gained strong interest and later received additional funding from the Welsh Government.

Educational Publishing and Print Design
Alongside digital learning resources, I also worked on printed educational materials.
One example was a book for the Level 2 Children’s Care, Play, Learning and Development: Theory qualification.
I produced the book using Adobe InDesign and InCopy. I also edited and structured the author content for print publication.
The team published the book in both English and Welsh. Colleagues also reported strong demand from schools and colleges.

Championing Workplace Equality
Alongside my digital work, I was also active in workplace equality initiatives.
I served as Equalities Officer for the WJEC branch of UNISON. In this role, I supported colleagues and worked with the LGBT+ Cymru Self-Organised Group to advocate for inclusive workplace policies.
This work included supporting policy changes around candidate identification and the use of chosen pronouns during examinations, particularly within language subjects.
I also contributed to writing conference motions and supporting wider advocacy work. This included efforts to establish the Welsh Gender Service in Cardiff alongside campaigners such as Jenny-Anne Bishop (OBE).

Reflecting on My Time as a Digital Learning Producer
Working at the Welsh Joint Education Committee allowed me to combine design, digital media, and education.
Over twelve years, I worked on many projects. These included knowledge organisers, interactive activities, and printed learning materials.
The role of Digital Learning Producer allowed me to turn educational content into engaging learning experiences.
Most importantly, the work supported teachers and helped students access clear and structured knowledge.
