Gone midnight getting home after a brilliant outdoor cinema Swansea Jaws Singleton Park experience at Singleton Park. Watching a classic film under the open sky in Swansea made for a brilliant evening with friends, a picnic, and plenty of atmosphere.
The film choice was Jaws 🦈
…duuunnnnnnnn dun…
That iconic two-note theme echoing through the park: duunnn dunnn… duuuunnnn duun… dunnn dunnn…

Picnic, friends, and an outdoor feast
Myself, Caroline, and Dawn brought a generous picnic that turned the night into something really special. We shared salmon and soft cheese with chives sandwiches, tortilla crisps, fresh salad, and peppers filled with soft cheese. Alongside that were houmous, pasta salad, olives, salsa, garlic dip, onion dip, and plenty of extras to graze on throughout the evening.
Everything was carefully packed with foldable chairs, jackets, and a small coffee table setup, creating a relaxed outdoor living room atmosphere right in the park.

A slow build to darkness
The evening had a natural build-up as we waited for it to get dark enough for the projection to work properly. As daylight faded, the temperature dropped quickly, and blankets, coats, and fleece layers came out.
There was a quiet buzz across the crowd as everyone settled in, waiting for the screen to come alive.

Jaws just yards from the sea
What made the night even more intense was the location. With Swansea Bay nearby, the sea was only yards from where we were sitting.
That proximity added a whole extra layer of tension while watching Jaws. Every time the music started, it was impossible not to glance towards the darkness in the direction of the water. It blurred the line between film and reality in a really unforgettable way.
The film: Jaws (1975)
Jaws remains one of the greatest thrillers ever made.
Directed by Steven Spielberg, it follows a seaside town terrorised by a great white shark. A police chief, marine biologist, and shark hunter join forces to track it down before more attacks occur.
The film is famous for its restraint—the shark is rarely seen, which makes it far more frightening. Instead, tension builds through suggestion, sound, and atmosphere, driven by that unforgettable score.

Final thoughts
A brilliant evening all round—great company, a well-prepared picnic, and a film that still knows exactly how to build suspense.
A cold walk home afterwards, but completely worth it for a unique outdoor cinema experience in Swansea.
