A Swansea to Tenby train trip is one of the easiest ways to enjoy a day beside the sea in West Wales. Recently, I joined a community rail day out to Tenby. Although the weather was breezy and overcast, our spirits remained high throughout the journey. The trip offered great company, beautiful scenery, and a chance to explore one of Wales’ most popular coastal resorts.

Travelling from Swansea to Tenby by Train
We boarded a direct train from Swansea and enjoyed a comfortable journey through the Welsh countryside. Travelling by rail made the day stress-free, allowing everyone to relax and enjoy the experience from the moment we departed.
Soon afterwards, we arrived in Tenby and headed into the town centre. Despite the lack of sunshine, the harbour looked stunning, while the colourful houses overlooking the waterfront created a picture-perfect scene. In addition, the fresh sea air and dramatic coastal views made the visit even more enjoyable.
Exploring the Coastal Resort
Tenby always offers plenty to see and do. We spent time wandering through the narrow streets, browsing local shops, and admiring the historic town walls. Meanwhile, others took the opportunity to enjoy the beaches and harbour area.
Although the breeze was strong at times, it added to the atmosphere of this beautiful seaside town. As a result, the day felt refreshing and uplifting.
Lunch at the Hope & Anchor
After exploring the town, we enjoyed lunch at the nautical-themed gastropub, the Hope & Anchor. The restaurant is well known for its hearty meat and seafood dishes.
I chose the delicious Cajun Spiced Mackerel Fillet, served with new potatoes, mixed salad, and mint yoghurt sauce. The mackerel was perfectly cooked and full of flavour. Furthermore, the fresh salad and cooling yoghurt sauce complemented the spices wonderfully. It was an excellent meal and a highlight of the day.

Building Confidence Through Community Rail
The trip formed part of an inspiring initiative led by Community Rail Officer Eve Sherratt. She works in partnership with Transport for Wales to organise railway day trips for community groups across the region.
These outings help tackle loneliness and social isolation. Moreover, they encourage people to build confidence when travelling by train. Participants can enjoy a day out, meet new people, and discover how accessible rail travel can be.
Light refreshments are also provided during the journeys, helping to create a welcoming and friendly atmosphere. Consequently, the trips support both social connections and independent travel.
Thank You to Eve Sherratt
A huge thank you goes to Community Rail Officer Eve Sherratt for organising another enjoyable day out. Her dedication helps people connect with their communities while discovering new destinations by rail.
The Swansea to Tenby train trip demonstrated how rail travel can bring people together, boost confidence, and create lasting memories. Most importantly, it showed that even a cloudy day cannot spoil a wonderful coastal adventure.
If you would like to learn more about Eve’s work and community rail projects across South West Wales, her diary entries provide a fascinating insight into the benefits of community rail and the positive impact it has on local communities.
