From September 2023 to March 2026, I created digital communications to support LGBTQ+ community events organised by Sadie’s Butterflies. My work focused on designing social media banners, preparing newsletters, and producing event correspondence that helped promote events and keep the community informed.
The aim was to create welcoming and engaging communications that clearly shared event details while reflecting the inclusive and supportive atmosphere of the LGBTQ+ community.
Social Media Banners That Speak to the Community
Social media plays a key role in how people discover events. For Sadie’s Butterflies, I designed Social media is often the first place people discover community events. To support this, I designed banners that could work across multiple platforms while ensuring that key event information remained clear and visually engaging.
The banners were created to fit several digital formats, including:
- Facebook posts
- Facebook event pages
- WhatsApp group sharing
Designing for different platforms meant adjusting layouts so that text, imagery, and event details remained readable on both desktop and mobile devices. Typography, spacing, and composition were adapted depending on how and where the banner would appear.
Rather than using a single fixed style, the designs often reflected the theme and atmosphere of individual events. Colours, imagery, and typography could vary depending on the occasion, helping each event feel distinctive and visually engaging.
Each banner was designed to:
- Clearly communicate event details such as date, time, and location
- Capture the theme or mood of the event
- Work effectively across different social media formats
This flexible approach allowed the visuals to support a wide range of LGBTQ+ community events while keeping information clear and accessible.

Newsletters and Communications
Alongside social media graphics, I also helped create newsletters and correspondence used to communicate with attendees and the wider community.
These communications helped to:
- Announce upcoming LGBTQ+ community events
- Share updates and reminders with attendees
- Provide clear information about participation and event details
The tone of these communications was friendly and welcoming, helping ensure that information was easy to understand and accessible to everyone.

Supporting LGBTQ+ Community Events Through Digital Communication
This work has been about more than simply promoting events. Thoughtful design and clear communication help build connections and encourage participation within the community.
By combining visual design with accessible messaging, these materials helped support the visibility of LGBTQ+ community events and strengthen the online presence of Sadie’s Butterflies.
Creative Focus
Through this project, I combined design and communication skills to support community engagement. The work highlights experience in:
- Social media banner design for multiple platforms
- Digital promotion of LGBTQ+ community events
- Newsletter writing and correspondence
- Creating inclusive and engaging digital content
Together, these materials demonstrate how thoughtful digital communication can help promote events, support community initiatives, and bring people together.
