Back at the Swansea.com Stadium!

It was great to be back at the stadium after a month-long international break, which felt more like a whole season had passed! I had missed the usual matchday routine, catching up with friends and enjoying my ham roll and a cup of tea before the early 12:30pm kick-off.

With Swansea City sitting proudly at the top of the Championship, there was plenty to look forward to. The big question was whether the Swans could pick up where they had left off before the break.

A frustrating first half

Although it was lovely to be back watching the Swans, the first half was a little frustrating. From where I was sitting, the players seemed slightly out of sync after a month without their usual club football routine. There was plenty of possession, but the passing lacked precision, and we struggled to turn promising moves into clear-cut chances.

Norwich took the lead in the 28th minute when Oscar Schwartau set up Jacob Wright, who finished well to put the visitors 1–0 ahead. It was disappointing to concede at home, particularly when Swansea had looked promising in the opening stages.

The Swans continued to search for an equaliser, but things were not quite clicking. At half-time, Norwich had the advantage, and I was hoping the players would return with more energy, sharper passing and the confidence we had seen in their performances before the international break.

The Swans turn it around!

Thankfully, the second half was a different story!

Just four minutes after the restart, Josh Tymon delivered the ball into the box, and Moussa Yeo kept his composure to slot home the equaliser in the 49th minute. What a relief! It was exactly the lift the team and supporters needed.

Swansea suddenly looked more confident, with greater intensity and movement going forward. Then, in the 59th minute, Melker Widell provided the assist for Adam Idah, who timed his run perfectly to meet the cross and head home the winning goal.

There was an extra bit of satisfaction in seeing Idah score against Norwich, the club where he had spent seven years before leaving in 2024.

Two goals in ten minutes had completely changed the game. After the frustrations of the first half, it was wonderful to see the Swans come alive after the break. The improvement was clear, and the players looked much more connected as they began to take control.

Holding on for the three points

Although Swansea were now in front, there was still work to do. Norwich looked for a way back into the game, and the Swans needed to stay focused to protect their lead.

There were opportunities to extend the advantage, including a chance for Joseph Opoku, while Lawrence Vigouroux was on hand to keep out a shot from Sam Field as Norwich tried to find an equaliser.

The Swans held firm, and the final whistle confirmed a 2–1 victory. It was another impressive comeback from a team showing that it has the determination and belief to fight for results, even when things do not go according to plan.

Still top of the Championship!

The victory meant Swansea had secured their sixth win in the opening nine league games and maintained their position at the top of the Championship. It was also their third consecutive win, keeping the momentum going after the international break.

It is still early in the season, and there are plenty of challenges ahead. The Swans face a trip to Millwall on Tuesday before welcoming West Ham next weekend, so there will be little time to rest.

However, there is plenty to be encouraged by. The team is playing exciting football, combining Swansea’s familiar style with greater intensity and aggression. The ability to come from behind and turn matches around is another positive sign, while the depth of the squad should help as the season progresses.

It was also a special occasion with legendary former Swansea manager John Toshack watching as guest of honour, 45 years after leading the Swans to the top of the old First Division. It was a lovely reminder of the club’s history on an afternoon when supporters had plenty of reasons to celebrate.

My matchday thoughts

After such a long break, it was wonderful to be back at the stadium, catching up with friends and enjoying my usual ham roll and cup of tea before kick-off.

I have to admit that the first half tested my patience. I felt the players were a little rusty and not quite in sync after the international break, but the improvement after half-time made all the difference.

Moussa Yeo’s equaliser lifted the team, and Adam Idah’s goal completed an excellent turnaround. It was a reminder that football can change very quickly, and a frustrating afternoon can turn into a thoroughly enjoyable one in the space of just ten minutes!

Another three points, three wins in a row and the Swans still sitting proudly at the top of the Championship. It was great to be back, and the team certainly gave us something to celebrate.

Now, it is on to Millwall on Tuesday. Let’s hope the Swans can keep this momentum going!

Come on you Swans!
