Competition: EFL Championship
Venue: Swansea.com Stadium
Final score: Swansea City 0–0 Sheffield United

It was lovely to be back at the Swansea.com Stadium for Swansea City’s first home league game of the new season.
I arrived early, which gave me plenty of time to enjoy the atmosphere before kick-off. Most importantly, it was really nice to get back to my regular seat with my season-ticket family and see all the familiar faces again.
It was also an absolutely boiling day! Before heading into the stadium, I stopped outside for a nice cold drink and enjoyed sitting in the sunshine for a while. It was one of those proper summer matchdays where you could feel the heat before the football had even started. ☀️🥤
Back in My Regular Seat
There is always something lovely about coming back to your usual seat at the start of a new season.
After the summer break, it felt good to be back amongst familiar faces, catching up with my season-ticket family and settling back into the routine of supporting the Swans.
For me, matchdays are about more than just the 90 minutes. It is the people you share them with, the little conversations before kick-off and that familiar feeling of being back where you belong.
So, even before the game started, I was simply happy to be there.

A Game That Was Difficult to Unlock
Once the match got underway, Swansea had some really good spells of possession.
There was some lovely passing and movement, and you could see the team trying to play their football. But Sheffield United made it difficult.
They were a strong and physical side, defended well and gave Swansea very little room to work with around the penalty area.
At times, I felt the Swans were doing the hard work of getting the ball forward, only to find that final bit of space wasn’t there.
That was probably the most frustrating part for me. Not because Swansea weren’t trying, but because there were moments when I wanted them to be a little braver and more decisive once they got into the box.
Against a side like Sheffield United, you need to find a different way of opening them up.
Chances Without a Goal
It wasn’t a game without opportunities.
Sheffield United came close in the first half when Callum O’Hare’s effort came back off the crossbar. Lawrence Vigouroux also made some important saves as the visitors looked for their own opening.
Swansea had opportunities too.
Moussa Yeo found space after cutting inside, while Elijah Just couldn’t quite make the most of the follow-up. Adam Idah also worked hard and helped create an opening from the byline, but the resulting effort was blocked.
Later, Zan Vipotnik came off the bench and had a headed opportunity, but Michael Cooper was able to deal with it.
There were moments when you thought the game might finally open up, but neither side could find the finish.
Some Good Football, But a Tough Opponent
I did enjoy watching Swansea’s possession play.
There were passages of football that were pleasing to watch, with the ball being moved around nicely and the team showing patience.
But Sheffield United were not going to make things easy.
They were physical, committed and organised, and they seemed comfortable making Swansea work for every opening.
That is where I felt Swansea could perhaps have done a little more in the box. Against a team defending so well, you need those little moments of inspiration — a clever pass, a quick turn, a shot taken early or someone willing to take a chance.
It just didn’t quite happen for the Swans.
A Fair Result
When the final whistle went, it finished Swansea City 0–0 Sheffield United.
I didn’t leave the stadium feeling frustrated or disappointed. Instead, I came away thinking that a draw was probably a fair result.
Of course, I would always love to see Swansea win, especially at home, but Sheffield United had made life difficult and had created opportunities themselves.
Swansea had enjoyed plenty of possession and had their chances, but they hadn’t quite done enough in the final third to turn that into a winning performance.
For me, it was one of those afternoons where you can appreciate what the team did well while also recognising that there is still plenty to work on.
And that’s okay.
It is only the beginning of a long Championship season.
Just Happy to Be Back
More than anything, I was just happy to be back at the Swansea.com Stadium.
The first home league game of a new season has its own feeling. The familiar seat, the familiar faces, the anticipation before kick-off and that little bit of excitement about what the months ahead might bring.
The result wasn’t spectacular, but the day itself was enjoyable.
A cold drink in the sunshine, good company, my usual seat and 90 minutes watching the Swans — sometimes that’s what a matchday is really about.
There will be plenty of ups and downs between now and the end of the season. Hopefully, there will be many more happy afternoons ahead.
For now, I’ll take the point, take the positives and look forward to the next one.
