A Wet but Wonderful Day at Pontardawe Pride
The weather may have been horrendous, but Pontardawe Pride 2026 proved that a little rain cannot dampen community spirit. Despite the downpours throughout the day, good crowds gathered in Pontardawe to celebrate diversity, inclusion, and Pride in what turned out to be another memorable event.
I arrived and met up with my friends Gareth, Jerry, Stella, and, of course, the ever-popular Rosey the dog. Thankfully, there was shelter available, and we found seats under a canopy where we could relax with a pint while enjoying the music and entertainment taking place throughout the day.

Exploring the Pride Market
One of the highlights of the event was the bustling Pride Market, which featured a wide range of stalls selling both Pride-related and general merchandise. There was plenty to browse, and I made sure to visit every stall.
Along the way, I picked up a few freebies, including some useful pens, and couldn’t resist treating myself to a selection of sweets. The stallholders were friendly and welcoming, helping to create a warm atmosphere despite the gloomy weather.
The market formed part of a packed programme organised by Pontardawe Pride. Visitors could browse local vendors, learn more about LGBTQ+ organisations, and enjoy entertainment throughout the day.

Supporting a Local Business for Lunch
By lunchtime, Gareth, Jerry, and I decided to support a local business by heading inside the Pontardawe Inn for a meal. Escaping the rain for a while was certainly appreciated, and the food provided a welcome break from the weather.

Music, Entertainment and Community Spirit
Throughout the afternoon, visitors enjoyed a varied entertainment programme hosted by Miss Lola Lemont. The line-up included performances from Cwmtawe Brass, Russell Jones Jr., Crazy Characters, LYWIS, and Grace Parry.
Despite the rain, people continued to arrive and support the event. Families, friends, and members of the LGBTQ+ community came together to enjoy the celebrations, creating a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere across the venue.

Rosey Steals the Show
One of the most anticipated attractions was the annual dog show, which has become a popular feature of Pontardawe Pride.
Stella entered Rosey, who arrived on stage dressed in her colourful Pride outfit. Looking absolutely fabulous in her bright colours and accessories, Rosey reminded many of us of a glamorous drag queen as she proudly showed off her Pride style.
Another friend, Donna, also entered her dog Ziggy, who was making a first appearance at Pontardawe Pride. Both dogs received plenty of attention from the crowd.
The audience cheered enthusiastically as the judging took place. Then came the big moment—Rosey was announced as the winner. The cheers became even louder as Gareth and Stella proudly posed with Rosey and her trophy. It was a fantastic moment and one of the highlights of the day.

More Than Just a Pride Event
Pontardawe Pride continues to grow each year and offers something for everyone. Alongside the market, entertainment, and dog show, visitors could access information from LGBTQ+ organisations, enjoy food and drink from local businesses, and take part in activities designed to bring the community together.
The event also linked with other local activities, including evening performances at Pontardawe Arts Centre and the Interfaith Service held at Gellionnen Chapel the following day.
Final Thoughts
Although the weather was far from ideal, Pontardawe Pride 2026 demonstrated exactly what Pride is all about—community, acceptance, friendship, and celebration.
The rain may have soaked the town, but it certainly did not wash away the smiles, laughter, and support on display throughout the day. From browsing the market stalls and enjoying live entertainment to cheering on Rosey in the dog show, there was plenty to enjoy.
A huge thank you goes to the organisers, volunteers, performers, stallholders, sponsors, and everyone who attended. Their efforts ensured that Pontardawe Pride 2026 remained a successful and memorable celebration despite the challenging weather.
I am already looking forward to seeing what next year’s event will bring.
