Thanks to Pauline and a Welcome Change in the Weather
On 2nd July 2026, we enjoyed a wonderful day trip to Tenby. The outing was organised by Social Care and Wellbeing for Adults 50 and Over in Swansea through their Ageing Well programme. Friends came together for a relaxing day on the Pembrokeshire coast. We enjoyed good company, beautiful scenery, and plenty of laughter.
Firstly, I would like to thank Pauline Anderson for arranging such an enjoyable trip. Special thanks must also go to Pauline for seemingly praying for good weather. The days leading up to our visit had been a complete washout. Heavy rain dominated the forecast. Thankfully, we were blessed with mostly dry conditions. Only the occasional light shower interrupted the day.

Delma’s Unofficial Back Street Tour
Upon arriving in Tenby, our friend Delma took charge and led us on what became known as a “back street tour” of the town. We wandered through narrow lanes and hidden corners. Several members of the group jokingly wondered whether Delma had lost her way. Everyone happily played along with her enthusiasm.
After what felt like almost a complete circle of the town, we finally arrived at our destination: Motley Pie & Coffee. The café provided the perfect opportunity for a much-needed tea and coffee break before our adventures continued.
Exploring Tenby’s High Street
Refreshed and ready to explore, we made our way through Tenby’s charming streets. We passed many of the independent shops and businesses along the High Street. The bustling atmosphere added to the town’s unique character and charm.
Lunch at the Hope & Anchor
Our next stop was the Hope & Anchor for lunch. The fresh food and welcoming atmosphere made it one of the highlights of the day.

Castle Hill and Stunning Coastal Views
Fortunately, the weather continued to improve after lunch. As a result, we enjoyed an extended walk around one of Wales’ most picturesque seaside towns.
We began by exploring the historic town walls and the coastline around Castle Hill. From there, we enjoyed stunning views across Castle Beach. We could also see the iconic St. Catherine’s Island and Fort.
The scenery was breathtaking. The brighter weather allowed us to fully appreciate Tenby’s famous coastline.

From Caldey Island Boats to “Alice Rock”
As we continued our walk, we admired the boats travelling to and from Caldey Island. We also stopped to view the RNLI Tenby Lifeboat Station.
One of the most striking sights along North Beach was Goscar Rock. This dramatic limestone pinnacle rises from the sand and dominates the surrounding landscape.
When one member of our group asked what it was called, Jerry immediately replied, “Alice.” His answer sparked laughter among everyone present. From that moment onwards, it became affectionately known as “Alice Rock” by our group.

A Walk Towards South Beach
The afternoon stroll continued through Tenby’s attractive side streets towards South Beach. Along the way, we admired elegant hotels, colourful gardens, and well-placed benches overlooking the coast.
Looking across the water, Caldey Island could be seen clearly in the distance. The view added another memorable feature to an already beautiful landscape.

Refreshments at the Imperial Hotel
To round off the day, we stopped for refreshments at the Imperial Hotel Tenby. We sat on the dining patio balcony, sheltered from the coastal breeze. It was the perfect place to relax and reflect on a thoroughly enjoyable outing.
The views across South Beach were magnificent. They provided a fitting finale to our visit.
A Day to Remember
The trip showed how organised community outings can bring people together. They encourage social connections and help create lasting memories.
Between the scenic coastline, historic streets, delicious food, and good humour shared among friends, our day in Tenby was a great success.
Thank you once again to Pauline Anderson and the Ageing Well Swansea team for organising such an enjoyable excursion. We are already looking forward to the next adventure.

Thank you so much for your lovely review of our outing to Tenby, Christina. Our Ageing Well Community group are so pleased that our 2 buses of older people from Swansea had a wonderful day out.
Our aim is to help people have something to look forward to, make long lasting friendships & to have fun.
Kind regards.
